【SDG17】Ambassadors on Campus in Chu-Lin Private High School: St. Lucia Ambassador Encourages Students to Pursue Lifelong Learning

The Ambassadors on Campus program organized by the Secretariat, New Taipei City Government invited Robert Kennedy Lewis, Ambassador of Saint Lucia to Taiwan, to Chu-Lin Private High School today (20th) to give a talk entitled "An Educational Journey in Paradise: Simply Saint Lucia." The event saw the attendance of more than 200 teachers and students. With a friendly demeanor and charisma, Lewis delivered an engaging and exciting presentation to great acclaim by both teachers and students.
 
Lewis quickly broke the ice with the audience through an interactive Q&A session at the beginning of the talk. He then led them to appreciate the natural beauty and diverse culture of Saint Lucia with a humorous and lively speech. He also shared his deep emotional connection with Taiwan, pointing out that this friendship is an important bridge for promoting bilateral relations between Saint Lucia and Taiwan. With many years of teaching experience and having served as the Minister of Education of Saint Lucia, Lewis also encouraged students to seize every opportunity for international exchange, cultivating their listening and comprehension skills. He further stressed the importance of education for personal growth and even diplomatic development, motivating young students to read diligently, maintain a passion for lifelong learning, and actively broaden their global horizons.

Jui-Chi Lu said that he was deeply impressed by the ambassador's words, "Not for school, but for life," and agreed that school education has a profound influence on personal growth. He hopes to experience a wider range of different cultures in the future to lead a richer life. Hsiang-Ying Chen reflected on Taiwan's diplomatic situation after the speech, considering that Taiwan should take every opportunity to engage in exchanges with the international community. She believes that youth represents Taiwan and hopes to actively participate in international affairs in the future.
 
Chih-Hsiung Lu, Principal of Chu-Lin Private High School, said that all teachers and students were looking forward to hear about St. Lucia’s culture from Lewis, thereby gaining new international perspectives. The school also prepared a singing performance of "Longing for the Spring Breeze" to welcome the ambassador. Principal Lu also thanked the Secretariat, New Taipei City Government for bringing this educational program to campus and called on students to cultivate a global mindset that allows them to pursue excellence on the international stage.

Hui-Mei Juh, Director General of the Secretariat, said that the Secretariat officially launched the Ambassadors on Campus program this year, inviting diplomats in Taiwan to visit schools in New Taipei City and share with students the charm of various cultures, diverse international perspectives, and their first-hand diplomatic experience. More than ten talks are planned for this semester, and the next one will be given by Lucia Langer, Representative from Slovakia, who will visit Jhangshu International Creative Technical High School to interact with teachers and students.
