【SDG 17】SDGs and cities’ actions
Our second VLR follows the "leaving no one behind" spirit which has already been applied to our first VLR (2019). The 2021 VLR contains 60 cases of actions (including pandemic-prevention actions) taken by bureaus or public-private partners that implement the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Its package also embodies the concept of sustainability and green recycle, encouraging citizens to support SDGs in the daily lives and to pursue a better New Taipei.
【SDG 17】NTP released 2021 VLR and partnered the Nordics for SDGs
New Taipei was the first city in Taiwan and tenth in the world to release its Voluntary Local Review (VLR) on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), revealing to the world the city’s determination to achieve sustainability. The second VLR released in Nov. 2022. ||The Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI) has developed “SDG Synergies”, a practical tool for comprehending and visualising the interactions between different targets based on systems thinking. Designed by researchers at the Stockholm Environment Institute, SDG synergies can support national and sub-national governments to implement the SDGs in an integrated manner. It is used in this report with the authorization to Plan b Inc.

The topic is from prevention to post-pandemic recovery. New Taipei applies the 6P strategy for COVID-19 pandemic prevention. First is to proact, the second is to plan, the third is to prepare, the fourth is to protect, the fifth is the package, the sixth is practice. Regarding post-pandemic recovery, we would apply the progressive reopening strategy which includes 2 phases and 4 stages.

【SDG 3】New Taipei City’s Defense Against COVID-19 Drill for local transmission prevention
New Taipei City has developed various standard operating procedures for pandemic control for facilitate effective, rapid and comprehensive pandemic control practices in accordance with relevant policies of central government. To avoid community spread and large-scale local transmission, the drill encompasses regular pandemic control practices, practices of home quarantine and home isolation, and response measures to large-scale location transmission.

【SDG 17】New Taipei VLR launch party
Taiwan's first VLR was born! As the largest city in Taiwan with a population of 4 million, New Taipei City expected itself to connect with the international community. Since UN announced SDGs in 2015, the administration of New Taipei City has worked proactively on its first VLR. The digital version was released in July, 2019, which counted as the first VLR in Taiwan and the 10th in the world. The launch party held in the Sanchong military village was joined by numerous staff members and citizens in a Taiwanese traditional way, highlighting our wishes for implementing the SDGs locally and unitedly.

New Taipei City follows the SDGs as the blueprint of its city development, promising citizens a more livable city environment. 【SDG 3】First in Asia New Taipei City held a large-scale pandemic prevention drill
A total of 450 people, including city government officials, healthcare workers, military personnel and community volunteers participated in the drill. Four stages were performed in the drill:||Stage 1: Before a local transmission occurs.|Stage 2: When individual cases are confirmed (people under home isolation are sent to hospitals)|Stage 3: When a single local transmission has occurred (confirmed cases from various stories and apartments in the same buildings, individual cases from neighboring buildings)|Stage 4: When a large-scale community spread has occurred in a neighborhood ||New Taipei City keeps staying cautious and deploys relevant measures in advance. We will keep the worst-case scenario in mind and best prepare ourselves for it.|

New Taipei City is the first city in Taiwan to have published its first Voluntary Local Review (VLR) on the guidelines of SDGs in July, 2019. It analyzes itself according to standards of a metropolis, hoping to acchieve a better governance.
