New Taipei City boasts a coastline stretching 145 kilometers. From Yehliu and Laomei to various coastal areas, these are precious natural assets. However, they constantly face the risk of marine pollution.||Since 2019, New Taipei has responded to more than 75 marine pollution incidents. On average, the city confronts the threat of ocean pollution almost every month.In the face of sudden pollution events, the New Taipei City Environmental Protection Bureau no longer merely cleans up afterward. ||Instead, it adopts a proactive, forward-deployed approach.From frontline response materials and heavy equipment warehouses to strategically located storage stations along the coast, ||New Taipei has established a comprehensive and rapid-response marine pollution defense system.Through the use of oil booms, skimmers, high-pressure cleaners, and various absorbent materials—combined with cross-agency drills and geographic information simulations—the city aims to contain pollution in the shortest possible time and minimize its impact.||Protecting the ocean is not just about cleaning up pollution; it is a race against time.||When marine pollution occurs, every second counts—for the marine ecosystem, coastal landscapes, and the livelihoods of coastal residents.If you discover any suspected pollution along the coast, please call 1999 immediately.||Together, let's protect this precious blue ocean.

The beach is beautiful, but the trash shouldn't be left behind. ||New Taipei City has launched the“Beach Cleanup Co-op,” partnering with coastal stores to provide the public with borrowable beach cleanup tools. This means you can head out immediately to clean the beach without having to prepare a bunch of equipment yourself, and together we can protect the coastal environment.||Currently, 50 partner stores across 9 coastal districts in New Taipei have joined the program. Since its launch, it has already recorded 7,120 tool borrowings and the removal of 17.2 metric tons of garbage.||Next time you visit the beach, don’t just enjoy the sea — do a little more for the coast.Before setting out, remember to contact the partner stores in advance, and pay attention to the weather, sea conditions, and your own safety. Do what you can, and together let's preserve the beauty of our coastline.|

The Sanzhi Wildlife Rescue and Care Center integrates three core functions — shelter, medical treatment, and rehabilitation — representing a comprehensive upgrade to New Taipei City's capacity and resources for wildlife protection. The goal is to give every injured animal the chance to return to nature.||The center currently houses a variety of species, including masked palm civets, small Indian civets, and turtles. In terms of facility design, dedicated enclosures have been tailored to the specific needs and characteristics of different species, providing safer and more comfortable care environments. A specially constructed aerial walkway allows animals to practice climbing and moving during rehabilitation, helping them gradually rebuild their survival skills for the wild.||Outdoor pool areas have also been set up for aquatic and reptilian species such as turtles and snakes, creating habitats that closely mirror their natural environments and supporting a faster recovery.||If members of the public come across a wild animal in need of rescue, they can report it by calling the Animal Protection Hotline at 1959.

Nanzaigou is known as the "Mother River" of Banqiao. In the past, the stench was so strong you could smell it while eating at Nanya Night Market. It was a foul-smelling ditch that everyone stayed away from.||But things have changed. Today, it’s a favorite spot for locals to cycle and enjoy nature. Indicator species like the Common Kingfisher and Taiwan Blue Magpie have returned. This February, we were thrilled to spot 11 Eastern Spot-billed Ducks (winter migrants) splashing around! Recently, a school of mullets was also seen here. It’s truly moving to see so many birds and fish thriving in Nanzaigou again.||With over 304 species recorded so far, the revival of Nanzaigou proves that New Taipei City is becoming a much friendlier environment for wildlife!
