
【SDG 17】New Taipei City and Richardson, Texas Sign MOU to Launch Opportunities for Educational, Cultural, and Economic Exchange

New Taipei City Mayor Hou Yu-ih and Richardson, Texas Mayor Amir Omar today signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between New Taipei City and the City of Richardson on Educational, Cultural, and Economic cooperation. In his remarks, Hou noted that both Richardson and New Taipei are culturally rich cities whose vibrant immigrant communities contribute to their dynamism. He emphasized that this spirit of diversity and inclusiveness provides a strong foundation for future collaboration.
Richardson, located in northern Texas, is home to approximately 120,000 residents. It is known for its diverse communities, including Arab, Chinese, and Indian populations. The city is also a hub for higher education and business, hosting the University of Texas at Dallas and the headquarters of major corporations such as AT&T and T-Mobile. This has earned Richardson the nickname the “Telecom Corridor” of the United States.

Hou highlighted his past visits to major US cities on both coasts and expressed that the city government looks forward to future opportunities to engage with Texas. He also extended appreciation to the Greater Dallas Taiwanese Chamber of Commerce (GDTCC) for its important role in helping foster this new chapter of friendship between New Taipei and Richardson.
Omar expressed his delight in signing the MOU with New Taipei City and his confidence that this partnership would lead to more opportunities for cooperation.

Distinguished guests attending the signing ceremony included Laurence Chiang, President of the GDTCC, Helene Lee, Chair of the GDTCC Sister City Committee, and 20 other representatives. From the New Taipei City Government, Hou was joined by Juh Hui-mei, Director General of the Secretariat; Chang Ming-wen, Commissioner of the Education Department; Sheng Hsiao-rung, Commissioner of the Economic Development Department; and Chang Chia-yu, Commissioner of the Cultural Affairs Department.
