The New Taipei City Economic Development Bureau, in collaboration with the Austrian Commercial Office, organized a two-day online forum—the "2022 Austrian Technology Days in New Taipei City"—in May. The forum focused on the sustainable-development-related themes of green energy, waste management, and wastewater management.

The forum was held on May 17 and 18. Several Taiwanese and Austrian lecturers and more than 20 Taiwanese and Austrian companies were invited to share their experiences and exchange industrial technologies. The forum provided attendees with insight into the technological advancements and other advantages of various industries in cities across the two countries. He Yi-Ming, Director of Economic Development Department at New Taipei City Economic Development Bureau, acknowledged that Austria is the birthplace of numerous leading-edge and innovative technologies, including those related to air pollution and wastewater treatment, waste recycling, biofuel, green energy, environmental protection, and biotechnology.

At the forum, the participating Taiwanese manufacturers focused on the aforementioned three sustainable-development-related topics, sharing newly developed technologies or presenting their ideas for putting sustainable development concepts into practice. For example, UWin Nano shared innovative technologies for recycling electronic waste, and Fenri Energy proposed a solution that integrates intelligent monitoring and big data analysis with water information. In response to a discussion on climate-change-related issues that New Taipei City has made active efforts to address in recent years, Director He Yi-Ming expressed his desire to help New Taipei corporations help Taiwan move toward a zero-carbon economy.

New Taipei City became the first city in Taiwan to join the Powering Past Coal Alliance in 2019 and has continued to advocate for the transformation of the energy sector and the use of green energy since then. New Taipei City aims not only to become a sustainable city but also to cultivate sustainable businesses and industrial ecology, promote regional development, and maintain attractive urban aesthetics citywide. The city aims to achieve a 30% reduction in carbon emissions by 2030 and net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.
