Nanzaigou is known as the "Mother River" of Banqiao. In the past, the stench was so strong you could smell it while eating at Nanya Night Market. It was a foul-smelling ditch that everyone stayed away from.
But things have changed. Today, it’s a favorite spot for locals to cycle and enjoy nature. Indicator species like the Common Kingfisher and Taiwan Blue Magpie have returned. This February, we were thrilled to spot 11 Eastern Spot-billed Ducks (winter migrants) splashing around! Recently, a school of mullets was also seen here. It’s truly moving to see so many birds and fish thriving in Nanzaigou again.
With over 304 species recorded so far, the revival of Nanzaigou proves that New Taipei City is becoming a much friendlier environment for wildlife!
