New Taipei City boasts a coastline stretching 145 kilometers. From Yehliu and Laomei to various coastal areas, these are precious natural assets. However, they constantly face the risk of marine pollution.
Since 2019, New Taipei has responded to more than 75 marine pollution incidents. On average, the city confronts the threat of ocean pollution almost every month. In the face of sudden pollution events, the New Taipei City Environmental Protection Bureau no longer merely cleans up afterward.
Instead, it adopts a proactive, forward-deployed approach. From frontline response materials and heavy equipment warehouses to strategically located storage stations along the coast,
New Taipei has established a comprehensive and rapid-response marine pollution defense system.Through the use of oil booms, skimmers, high-pressure cleaners, and various absorbent materials—combined with cross-agency drills and geographic information simulations—the city aims to contain pollution in the shortest possible time and minimize its impact.
Protecting the ocean is not just about cleaning up pollution; it is a race against time.
When marine pollution occurs, every second counts—for the marine ecosystem, coastal landscapes, and the livelihoods of coastal residents. If you discover any suspected pollution along the coast, please call 1999 immediately.
Together, let's protect this precious blue ocean.
