The Eastern Academy of Management International (EAM-I) Biennial Conference was held in Taiwan for the first time from the 17th to the 21st, with events taking place across Taipei and New Taipei City. On the 17th, New Taipei City Mayor Hou Yu-ih welcomed over 100 business and management scholars from 64 universities worldwide, including UCLA, UC Irvine, Northwestern University, CUNY, SUNY, UT Dallas, Vanderbilt University, University of Maryland, Universität Bern, and Monash University.  Mayor Hou showcased New Taipei's abundant resources, both in terms of talent and expertise as well as infrastructure and facilities, to demonstrate the city's development potential to international scholars. Distinguished alumnus of Fu Jen Catholic University and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Tien Chung-kwang, also attended and spoke about Taiwan and New Taipei's significant contributions during the pandemic. Other notable guests included Yang Ching-hui, Taipei City Government Counselor; Lan Yi-chen, President of Fu Jen Catholic University; Jen Li-chung, President of National Taipei University of Business; Shia Ben-Chang, Vice President of Fu Jen Catholic University; and Huarng Kun-huang, Vice President of National Taipei University of Business.

Mayor Hou emphasized New Taipei City's dedication to fostering Taiwan -US business and academic exchanges, highlighting efforts over the past two years to bring the biennial conference to Taipei and New Taipei City. This year’s conference focused on sustainability and AI.  During his five-year tenure, Mayor Hou has actively promoted SDGs for sustainable development, making the city more resilient and improving residents' quality of life.  He noted the recent visit of tech leaders from NVIDIA and AMD, highlighting Taiwan's pivotal role in the global semiconductor industry.  Among NVIDIA’s 43 partner companies, 15, including Foxconn and GIGABYTE, are based in New Taipei City. Furthermore, ASML and Google have established research centers in New Taipei in past two years, and TSMC is only an hour away from the city.  As the center of northern Taiwan, New Taipei City strives to enhance the chip and AI supply chain, thereby boosting Taiwan’s economic competitiveness.

The Eastern Academy of Management (EAM) is a regional affiliate of the Academy of Management (AOM), the foremost global management organization with nearly 20,000 members worldwide, established 90 years ago. This biennial conference hosted a welcome reception attended by approximately 110 scholars from 64 universities across 14 countries, including the United States, Taiwan, Australia, and the United Kingdom. Notable American guests organizing the conference included EAM-I Conference Senior Director Professor Marie-Line Germain, Junior Director Professor Shalei Simms, Program Chair Professor Holly Chiu, Conference Coordinator Professor Rickie Moore, and former EAM President Professor Dilip Mirchandani. AOM members Professor Joan Weiner and Professor David Ford also participated. Additionally, Dean Pam Carter of the University of Maryland Global Campus' Business School and Dean Ian Williamson of UC Irvine’s Paul Merage School of Business attended the conference in New Taipei City.

Mayor Hou expressed gratitude to the Executive Committee of the EAM-I Conference, Fu Jen Catholic University, and National Taipei University of Business for their cross-national and cross-city efforts. The conference was also attended by Dean Bruce Lee of Fu Jen University's Management College, Assistant Professor Huh Chung-ling of Fu Jen University's Management College, Dean Chang Hsu-hwa of National Taipei University of Business' Management School, Professor Tso Chen-dong of National Taiwan University's Department of Political Science, and Professor Chen Yi-fan of Tamkang University's Department of Diplomacy and International Relations.  Director-general He Yi-ming of New Taipei City’s Economic Development Department, Director-general Chiu Chao-mei of the Youth Department, and Director-general Yao Ching-yu of the Secretariat, who hosted the welcome dinner, accompanied Mayor Hou.

Furthermore, on the 19th, a sustainability forum was held at Fu Jen Catholic University as part of the biennial conference, where Director-general Yao Ching-yu was invited to speak on how New Taipei City collaborates with the business sector to promote sustainable development from a public sector perspective.
