Mayor Hou presents Foo with a box of fine tea from New Taipei City as a commemorative gift.

The newly appointed Trade Representative of the Singapore Trade Office in Taipei, Teow Lee Foo, visited New Taipei City Government today (10th) to meet with Mayor Yu-Ih Hou. Both engaged in an in-depth dialogue on issues such as urban governance, tourism promotion, and exchanges between Taiwan and Singapore. Mayor Hou expressed his sincere welcome and hoped that, based on the existing rapport, they could continue to expand into diverse and concrete areas of cooperation and further advance the partnership, fostering an enduring friendship between Taiwan and Singapore.
 
Mayor Hou said that New Taipei City and Singapore share a long history of close interactions. Both sides are highly complementary in terms of urban development and international exchange. During the World Masters Games 2025 Taipei & New Taipei City, Alex Yam, Mayor of North West District, Singapore, also visited New Taipei City. Mayor Hou remarked that in the face of rapid global changes, Singapore's efficient governance and innovation capabilities, as well as its remarkable achievements in urban planning, smart governance, and tourism development, serve as important learning models for New Taipei City.
 
Mayor Hou further explained that New Taipei City possesses abundant mountain and seascape resources and diverse cultural characteristics. From the North Coast and Northeast Coast to urban tourism, each area has its own unique charm. Combined with a well-developed industrial supply chain and convenient transportation network, the city boasts excellent conditions for developing international tourism and investment cooperation. He sincerely invited Foo and Singaporeans from all walks of life to travel to the city and experience its wide-ranging features firsthand.
 
Foo said that as the most populous city in Taiwan, New Taipei City has accomplished remarkable and widely acclaimed results in promoting urban transformation, improving tourism quality, and strengthening infrastructure. Specifically, she mentioned that New Taipei City's unique natural sceneries and cultural resources hold significant appeal for Singaporean tourists. In the future, she will continue to play a bridging role to promote substantive cooperation between both sides in areas such as tourism, trade, and people-to-people exchanges, and further consolidate the friendly bonds between Taiwan and Singapore.
 
The atmosphere of the visit was warm and cordial, with both sides expressing a strong desire to continue deepening exchanges and cooperation. The distinguished guests today included Timothy Seow, Deputy Trade Representative of the Trade Office, and Shangge Lee, Director (Information) of the Trade Office. Meanwhile, Mayor Hou was accompanied by Hui-Mei Juh, Director General of the Secretariat, to receive the guests.
