The Global City Network for Sustainability (G-NETS) Senior Officials International Forum was held today (31st) in Tokyo, Japan. The New Taipei City delegation, spearheaded by Deputy Secretary-general Ko Ching-chung and comprising officials from the Secretariat and Fire Department, took an active part in the forum, showcasing the city's policy successes through various presentations. The forum, featuring representation from around 36 countries and 50 cities, facilitated discourse on diverse and inclusive societies, urban safety, and environmental protection. In a gesture of international camaraderie, Deputy Secretary-general Ko extended Mayor Hou Yu-ih's warm greetings to Tokyo Governor Yuriko Koike during the opening ceremony, underscoring New Taipei City's commitment to fostering friendly exchanges with cities in Japan.
In a significant highlight of the day, the delegation delivered a presentation on the "The New Taipei City Emergency Data Platform" within the urban safety segment of the forum. Senior Technical Specialist Huang Di-sheng from the Fire Department elaborated on New Taipei's innovative disaster response strategies and capabilities, further accentuating the city's sustainable initiatives and accomplishments over the years. The session also saw contributions from other global cities including New York, Tokyo, Toronto, Bangkok, and Nairobi.

Furthermore, the delegation made a special visit to Chiba Prefecture on the 30th to meet with Chairman Masahiro Ito of the Chiba Prefectural Assembly. Chiba Prefecture has maintained annual visits to New Taipei since 2013, barring interruptions due to the pandemic. This visit facilitated Deputy Secretary-General Ko's invitation to Chairman Ito and the pro-Taiwan councilor Hiroaki Kawamura to New Taipei City to further strengthen the enduring friendship between the two cities for another decade.

Mayor Hou Yu-ih reflected on the importance of international city exchanges that New Taipei City has always put in today's municipal government meeting, emphasizing engagement through the shared language of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The session featured a special report by the Secretariat's Director-general Rao Qing-yu on "Focusing on the Small to Envision the Big, Putting People First to Build a Smart, Sustainable City Hall." Fire Department Director-general Li Qing-an, who delegated Huang to share New Taipei City's advancements in smart disaster prevention at G-NETS, voiced strong support for international collaboration in disaster prevention and rescue efforts. By participating in international forums and conferences, New Taipei City aims to exchange knowledge and experiences with cities worldwide.
