【SDG 5】New Taipei City Demonstrates Gender Diversity and Inclusion Achievements to 62 Cities Worldwide in RCN International Photo Exhibition

2026-05-08
Committed to creating a diverse, friendly, and inclusive urban environment, New Taipei City demonstrated its tangible actions and achievements in supporting the LGBTI+ community to the international community in the Rainbow Cities Network (RCN) International Photo Exhibition. The Secretariat, New Taipei City Government joined the photo exhibition themed "Bi+ Visibility and Pride" with the entry Weiming Tang: Haven for Bisexuals in New Taipei City. By pairing the iconic pink, purple, and blue colors in the bisexual flag with the traditional blessings of Yue Lao (the God of Marriage), the image showcases New Taipei City's fresh perspective and inclusive spirit in honoring gender diversity and integrating cultural heritage.

Debuting in 2016, the RCN International Photo Exhibition has now reached its 11th edition. This year's outcomes will be shared and released in 62 member cities around the world. For this exhibition, the submission from New Taipei City centers on the Weiming Tang in Zhonghe District. Drawing on the traditional belief in Yue Lao's power to grant a romantic partner, it explores the struggles and situations that bisexuals face while discovering their identity. The artwork depicts the Rabbit God enshrined at Weiming Tang, the guardian of the LGBTQI+ community—the revered deity offers a warm and supportive spiritual refuge for people of different sexual orientations, accompanying and accepting many bisexuals in their journey amidst the complexities of life.

New Taipei City avidly supports the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and tirelessly promotes gender-friendly policies. Since officially joining the RCN in 2020, it has consecutively participated in many editions of the RCN International Photo Exhibition. Through this year's entry, New Taipei City reaffirms its support and respect for the values of gender diversity on the global stage. Going forward, it hopes to strengthen its bonds with other cities through international exchanges to jointly create a more equal and inclusive society, echoing the spirit of the upcoming International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia.
