【SDG 3】Early intervention mobile vehicles

2019-10-09
Early intervention mobile vehicles
Through the end of April 2019, the number of developmentally delayed children reported in New Taipei City was 13,608, constituting approximately 7.2% of the 0–6 year-old population. New Taipei City’s vast area and a shortage of resources, namely medical care, education, and early intervention facilities in rural areas, have reduced parents’ willingness to bring children to screenings for intervention. This is problematic because the ages of 3 to 6 years are the critical period for early intervention, and missing that period might retard a child’s development.

Two early intervention mobile vehicles were presented to New Taipei City in August 2019 and will be commissioned to the Eden Social Welfare Foundation. The cars are equipped with early intervention teaching aids for sensory integration, gross movement, fine movement, and cognition and picture books for language development. They are also equipped with small air conditioners, fireproof curtains, television walls, and mobile tents. Similar to mobile classrooms, they can be used for screening and evaluation as well as community publicity and consulting, all of which are much need in rural areas.
